Always Looked Forward to Graduation in the Shoe

Having seen my cousin’s graduate from The Ohio State University in the Shoe, my hope had always been that would be where I would graduate also. To make certain I would graduate in June I took a couple of courses during one summer session between my Junior and Senior years.

During my four years on campus student enrollment was down because these were the World War II years. I was to graduate in June of 1945.

Here we were all preparing for the BIG day only to learn that graduation ceremonies were to be held in the Natatorium! It had been determined our class was too small to have them held on the field within the stadium.

Graduation Day was so hot, and with no air conditioning as they would have today, all I remember about graduation was the disappointment because of where it was held. I don’t even remember who the speaker was or what he said.
