"We're on our way to the hospital," Nate said when the phone rang at 8 Saturday morning.
"Great," I replied, tell Rachel she has until 3:30 kickoff to have that grand baby! Well, 2 hours later beautiful little Lydia Mae Davis obliged, and entered this world at 7 lbs and 20 inches. Apparently she, too, was eager to see the Buckeyes take on the Spartans. (She was much more courteous than her daddy, who had the gall to make yours truly miss a Buckeye game years ago when he was born at halftime!)
Times have changed since then though. Way back on that day, I was young and foolish enough to suggest to my better half I take a transistor radio with us to the hospital room, so I could listen to the game while she was in labor. Not a good thing! But this time around, late Saturday afternoon, while Grandma was rocking Lydia in the "birthing suite", well Nathan and I were furtively catching the second half of the Buckeyes game on the high def big screen TV in there! How sweet it was to see the Bucks play good old smash mouth Ohio State football, and seal the win with a four-yards-and-cloud-of-dust drive there at the end.
And as for little Lydia - well she didn't even wake up or whimper when her daddy and I screamed and hollered on Braxton's thread the needle winning TD pass! Yes sir, that little girl has promise! Welcome Lydia, and may all the hopes and dreams your grandma and I have for you all come true!
