First cut with more to come this week....
Just returned from spending more than 12 hours in and around Ohio Stadium yesterday. From arriving at noon for a filming with the travel channel, to finally walking out of the press box with some of the beat reporters at 1 AM this morning, it was one of those You Had To Be There moments!
I was in the 'Shoe in '68 at the breakout game of the super sophs against Purdue on their road to the National Championship. I was there when Archie wowed us in his 100 yard debut. Ditto when Keith Byars took one to the house without a shoe against Illinois, in the greatest comeback in Ohio Stadium history. Then there was the modern day revenge match, and victory, over the Fighting Irish. And of course the two modern signature wins against that School up North - the first launching the road to the 2001 National Championship, the second when the Wolves came in here ranked #2 and Pittman took it to the house. And night games against Texas, USC, Miami, and Penn State. So I've been a lucky guy and experienced more than my share of big ones!
Maybe last night's game won't go down that big on the stage of championships, or national interest. But I tell you what. The atmosphere was as electric as I have ever seen, and every bit as emotional, every bit as much a roller coaster, and every bit as draining, and inspiring as any of those games mentioned above.
I'll save the specifics for some later posts. As for now, I just got home, and man I need a nap!
