We're in good hands.
As I worked on both Stories of the Shoe, and Myles Traveled last night, I went back and listened to the tape of my interview with Archie Griffin. Then I listened to Coach Myles again, and one of the tapes where he talked about Woody. Archie talked about how you get people to follow you into battle. Coach Myles talked about how Woody got into a players head, how Woody got them to go to the mat for him, and his secrets for success as a result of that. In both cases, each talked about what it takes for coaching greatness.
You will eventually get to read those words. But you don't have to wait. You can hear them right now if you want.
Tonight I went to The O-zone and listened to their tape of Luke Fickell's Q&A's at yesterday's media day. As I listened to Coach Fickell respond to the questions, what slapped me right in the face was that it was Groundhog Day. I was hearing Archie's words, hearing Coach Myles words, hearing Woody's words, coming straight out of Coach Fickell's mouth. Now he wasn't teleprompting them. They weren't verbatim. They weren't scripted. Instead, they were coming from his own head, and his own heart. But it might as well been Archie talking. It might as well have been Coach Myles talking. It might as well have been Woody reincarnated. In a few short sentences, Luke boiled down all three's prescription for success. What is that prescription? Which sentences were those? Well when you read Myles Traveled and Stories of The Shoe, you will know.
Until then, trust me. We are in good hands!
