Some folks from my old stomping grounds have done pretty well for themselves. Where did I go wrong?
A few days ago Jim Harbough accepted the San Francisco coaching job (thank God he didn't come to Michigan!), and the cool $25 million that came with it. Jim's dad, you see was my high school football coach for two years. His Dad came riding in like a white night, and took a job away from a long time assistant who deserved to move up to the head coaching slot, that is until he left us in a lurch and moved on to Michigan. Little Jimmy would have been about 5 or 6 years old. I remember him hanging around practice. He was someone of a brat then, much like when he put on that acting job in Ohio Stadium pretending he couldn't hear and the official kept flagging us. That was one of the biggest hoaxes ever committed in Ohio Stadium. Well today I guess he has the last laugh.
Then this evening it was announced that Brady Hoak is going to be the new coach at that school up north that plays in that round hole in the ground.. Brady you see hails from Fairmont East in Dayton Ohio. We played Fairmont East when I was in high school and they were patsy's in our league. Of course today, I am sure Brady has a $10 or $15 million deal, so then again, guess who has the last laugh.
I was sitting here thinking, two people I rubbed shoulders with, where did I go wrong? Then I thought, naw, if it takes going to Michigan to get a million dollars, well I'll just pass and keep on going to McDonald's to pull out my Golden Buckeye and get the Senior Coffee.
I mean who would want to lay that on your decedents - that you had given in to Michigan- at any price. Let them earn their own fortune!
