I've avoided this so far, because there are no shortages of opinions these days about what has transpired with our Buckeyes. Just read the chat and comment boards I suspect, though I no longer do. (Why waste one's time with people who have an ax to grind or don't know what they are talking about, or spew venom in anonymity.) However, there is a shortage of people who have actually been on the inside, in the know with everything going on, offering those opinions.
One who did today was Coach Tressel, speaking in the today's Sugar Bowl opening press conference. I thought it was a candid, straight up, from the heart and honest performance about where the situation has been and is going, how he has wrestled with what was right, and a pretty astute idea about the proper response to deal with it. What he had to say pretty much echos my take on it all.
It would have been very easy for him to throw some people permanently under the bus to make his own skin look good. He isn't willing to do that, and has and will take some more heat for it. I have to admire him for being willing to do that. At the same time he hasn't made it easy for those involved to earn their way back into good graces, and I have to admire that too.
You may or may not agree with me. Either way you owe it to yourselves to listen to him directly and make up your own mind, rather than being influenced by all the spin.
The O-Zone has up more than 20 minutes of video from Coach Tressel's Press Conference.
I found it spellbinding and hung on every word.
I've said it before and it was true today...I never listen to the man that I don't learn something.
