The story report for last Saturday has to be being on the sidelines at halftime when the 1942 National Championship Team was honored for their 65th anniversary, during the 500th game held in Ohio Stadium. They started with 40, of which I think 38 got their degree and about 20 got Masters or PhD’s! Sixteen were represented Saturday. Having previously interviewed three from the group, I was there to take their pictures and shake their hands.
Tonight I sat in the kitchen of one of the team members and in a private moment, as I shared the pictures, he broke down in tears while describing the emotion they felt at the warm and loving reception they got Saturday in Ohio Stadium. I don’t think he will mind my sharing that as a way to say thanks to all of you who stood Saturday and applauded at what was likely the last time that they would all be together in that number.
If you were in the Shoe Saturday, feel privileged that you were a part of a historic event on a historic day.
